Using Tags and Readers with Asset Tracking
For all types of industries, especially the healthcare industry, asset tracking solutions us tags and readers as a means of locating equipment, supplies, and even patients. For example, if there are pieces of equipment needing to be monitored, RFID tags are attached so the item can be monitored. These asset management tools are then detected with readers via a signal that is emitted on a periodic basis. Typically, these readers would be placed in places such as walls, ceilings, and other locations. Therefore, as the equipment moves, the tracking is performed.
RFID readers take the data received, which is then sent on to a computer. At this point, algorithms are used for finding the exact location of the equipment. In addition to the algorithms, an interface for the user is also incorporated for the purpose of identifying, tracking, and searching equipment location. Of course, depending on the abilities of the system used, as well as the overall configuration, the information displayed would be reflected as an on-screen report, printed report, and more. Typically, the RFID tags would provide an array of information such as the equipment’s model number, the name of the manufacturer, maintenance schedules, location, and so on.
